Sanitary inspections support the assessment and management of risks within drinking-water supply systems. This standardized field-based approach assists key implementation activities within the WHO’s Framework for safe drinking-water. As part of the revision of the small drinking-water supplies guideline (Volume 3), WHO is revising the 1997 sanitary inspection forms to ensure greater alignment with best practice recommendations for drinking-water safety management. New sanitary inspection packages are now available for download for select technologies, and practitioner feedback is being sought.
