Climate change is now a constant topic of discussion among scientists and activists. Though it may be seen as an issue, people may not see it as a priority as it is largely invisible to the average human. It is not always evident how it is affecting our well-being, ecosystems or how many cities have to take drastic measures to prepare for water shortages. It only become clearer how the changing climate will affect the way we live in our cities and basins when there are headlines such as the likely possibility of a day zero for Cape Town to run of its drinking water supplies. In this blog, Katharine Cross and Corinne Trommsdorff from the International Water Association highlight actions that cities can take to tackle and adapt to climate change at four levels as defined in the IWA Principles for Water Wise Cities.
